After the Holocaust: Jewish Communities, Identities, and Intimacies in a Global Perspective

This interdisciplinary conference examines the long aftermath of the Holocaust through the lens of Jewish community rebuilding, shifting identities, and intimate life in a global perspective. Drawing on history, sociology, literature, and memory studies, the conference explores how Jewish communities across Europe, Israel, the Americas, and beyond have negotiated trauma, continuity, and transformation in the decades since 1945. Topics range from the formation of diasporic identities and intergenerational memory to the politics of commemoration and the intimate dimensions of post-Holocaust Jewish life, including family, gender, and sexuality.

We invite proposals for papers, panels, and roundtables examining the social, cultural, political, and intimate dimensions of post-Holocaust Jewish life. Topics may include survivor testimonies and their transmission, community rebuilding in displaced persons camps and migration destinations, the formation of Israeli and diasporic identities, Holocaust commemoration and memorialization, Jewish-non-Jewish relations after 1945, intergenerational trauma, and gender and intimate life in post-Holocaust communities. Interdisciplinary approaches are warmly encouraged.
