Aligning AI for Safety, Sustainability, and Humanity

Aug 23 - 23, 2026
Abstract Deadline: Jul 30, 2026
About This Conference
The Aligning AI for Safety, Sustainability, and Humanity conference, held in London, Ontario, Canada, brings together AI researchers, ethicists, environmental scientists, and policy experts to tackle the most pressing challenge of our technological era: ensuring that artificial intelligence development remains aligned with human values, ecological sustainability, and long-term societal well-being. The conference examines AI alignment from multiple angles — technical, philosophical, regulatory, and environmental — recognizing that safe and beneficial AI requires coordinated effort across disciplines. Sessions address both near-term alignment challenges in deployed AI systems and long-term questions about the governance of increasingly capable AI. Special emphasis is placed on AI's role in climate modeling, sustainable resource management, and equitable access to AI benefits.
Call for Papers
We invite original research contributions and position papers on the alignment of AI systems with human safety, sustainability goals, and societal values. Topics of interest include: AI alignment theory and technical safety research; value learning and preference elicitation; AI robustness and reliability in high-stakes applications; environmental impact of AI systems and sustainable ML; AI for climate and environmental monitoring; fairness, accountability, and transparency in AI; AI governance frameworks and regulatory approaches; long-term AI safety and existential risk considerations; human oversight mechanisms for AI; and interdisciplinary approaches to beneficial AI development. Both technical and non-technical contributions are welcome.
