Call for Papers - Digital Culture & Society (DCS) The Targeting State: AI, Surveillance, and Predictive Power Vol. 12, Issue 2/2026 –

Jun 10 - Jul 15, 2026
About This Conference
Digital Culture & Society Vol. 12, Issue 2 (2026) examines 'The Targeting State: AI, Surveillance, and Predictive Power,' bringing together interdisciplinary contributions on the institutionalisation of AI-driven surveillance in migration enforcement, predictive policing, and other domains of state power. The issue interrogates how algorithmic systems reconfigure the scale and logic of governmental authority, reproduce racialised discrimination through biased training data, and challenge established frameworks of accountability and expertise. Drawing on critical AI studies, media archaeology, digital literacy, and political science, contributors also explore counter-mapping, data activism, and other practices of resistance against computational governance.
