The 2nd International Workshop on Socio-technical Approaches to Content Moderation and Platform Governance

Oct 10 - 10, 2026
Abstract Deadline: Jul 10, 2026
About This Conference
The 2nd International Workshop on Socio-technical Approaches to Content Moderation and Platform Governance, held in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, brings together researchers from computer science, social science, law, and platform policy to advance understanding of how online platforms can govern user-generated content in ways that are effective, fair, and accountable. Now in its second edition, the workshop recognizes that content moderation is not a purely technical problem but a deeply socio-technical one, requiring coordination between automated classifiers, human moderators, policy frameworks, and community norms. Sessions examine the latest advances in automated content detection, appeals processes, cross-platform coordination, and the role of regulatory frameworks such as the EU Digital Services Act.
Call for Papers
The workshop invites original research contributions on socio-technical dimensions of content moderation and platform governance. Topics of interest include: automated content moderation systems and their limitations; human-in-the-loop and hybrid moderation pipelines; fairness and bias in content moderation; community-based and decentralized moderation approaches; transparency and accountability in platform policies; user appeals and due process; cross-platform information operations and coordinated inauthentic behavior; regulatory frameworks (DSA, DMCA, etc.) and their implementation; measurement and auditing of moderation systems; and misinformation, hate speech, and harmful content detection. Submissions from multiple disciplines are encouraged.
