Using Corpora in Contrastive and Translation Studies (8th edition)

About This Conference
Using Corpora in Contrastive and Translation Studies (UCCTS 8) is a biennial conference dedicated to empirical, corpus-based research on how languages differ from one another and how those differences are navigated in translation. The eighth edition continues a tradition of bringing together contrastive linguists, translation scholars, and corpus methodologists to examine parallel corpora, comparable corpora, learner translation corpora, and the quantitative methods used to extract cross-linguistic patterns from them.

Research questions range from the discovery of translation universals and explicitation tendencies to fine-grained contrastive grammatical analysis, the study of translator style, and the evaluation of machine translation output against human reference translations. Corpus linguists, translation studies scholars, computational linguists, and language teachers who use corpora to inform pedagogy all find UCCTS a focused and methodologically rigorous venue — one of the few conferences where contrastive and translational corpus work is the central topic rather than a peripheral one.
