About This Conference
This interdisciplinary workshop, held October 22–23, 2026 in Sofia, Bulgaria, examines how ageing and health narratives were framed across the Iron Curtain during the 20th century. Organized by the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, it explores intersections of medical knowledge production, aesthetics, and governance in Eastern and Western European contexts. Scholars from history, social sciences, and medical humanities are invited to contribute.
